She bit down on the bloody dagger and began searching the two corpses, but aside from their weapons, neither bodyguard carried any keys. Aspen remained calm, silently reciting the killer's principles Andrew had taught her. "As an assassin, the first rule is to stay cool. The second rule is still to stay cool. The third rule is to be fast, and the fourth is to escape above all else… That's what matters most." She opened the black briefcase first but found only documents inside, no Blackstar Crystal. That meant the crystal was most likely hidden in the safe. Aspen's slender fingers moved toward the combination lock. However, at the last moment, she suddenly froze.

VICTOR Thoughts of revenge consumed my mind, the weight of the word lingering in my thoughts. I stood by the window, the sunlight streaming through the open blinds and drapes, unable to hide any longer. It was clear now that Franco Massimo had been the assassin all along, perhaps defying his father's wishes to take over the family business. Or maybe it was all part of a larger scheme, with Franco being directed by Dante from the shadows. The truth remained elusive, lost forever.

Adrian kicked the assassin in the abdomen, causing him to fly back and crash into the ground. Taking advantage of the brief respite, Adrian quickly scanned the surroundings. Unfortunately, Kayden had vanished without a trace. It seemed Kayden had seized the opportunity to escape during the fight. "Damn it..." Adrian cursed under his breath. With a roar, he charged at the assassin, ready to unleash his wrath.

“Stay away from her.” The Caligo pulsed—then snapped. The assassin screamed, flung backward violently across the courtyard, crashing into a stone pillar with enough force to crack it in half. Their Lux blade shattered like glass. The assassin collapsed to the ground still breathing barely but defeated. Alessia fell to her knees and sobbed into her hands. Eryx caught her shoulders. “Alessia—hey—hey—he’s alive—look—he’s alive.” Kael swayed on his feet, blood dripping down his arm.

"Look. We both know you like me. I don't dislike you either. But I am scared and you know why. I hope you will give me some time to open my heart only if you are still willing to umm … you know, hit on me. But if not and if you already chose to walk away, it would be fair to you. And I won't bother you. So.. Well.. Congrats once again and good night". Kane turned around to leave. "Kane". He turned to face Ming again. "I will make sure that I won't need anyone after you. I will wait for you. And thank you for the gift Kane". He winked. Kane cursed under his breath but his dimpled smile was not hidden from Ming. He knew it was tough but not impossible. He was already head over heels for Kane.

“What are you working on?” “Plotting the route for the first patrol with our recruits. Anika got through here.” She tapped her finger on a point on the map. “I expect we will see more come through the same route, but Lucas’s lands are expansive even focusing on the Cerathean border.” Selene had filled me in on the assassin that slipped into pack lands the night before. She had been one of the newer assassins to join the guild, barely out of training. I knew my friend was saddened by having to kill the girl, but there wasn’t much else she could have done. Even though they hadn’t marked each other again, I could tell by the way she spoke his name that Selene was feeling the pull of the bond.

“Ah, dear niece, so this is what an average day in the life looks like… waltzing with your kill and staring right into their eyes right before you snuff the light out of it… brilliant!” It was obvious he wanted a reaction out of her, and on a very good day, he would have gotten nothing, but today wasn’t exactly going as planned for the plus-sized assassin. Barbara moved with a speed that would have stunned the girl she used to be. In one fluid motion, she was behind him. She didn't bother shedding the server's jacket; she simply reached beneath it. The cold steel of a ceramic knife was pressed firmly against the pulse point of his neck before he could say another word.

I was not certain how he entered, but I did know that he would not be leaving out the front door. He looked just as douchey as he had the last time that I had seen him. His love of the color black was very stereotypical with what many humans thought our kind was like. Despite his causal appearance, I knew that he would have a few aces up his sleeves. He was a trained assassin after all. A proud smirk pulled at his lips while his eyes looked me over as if I was created to be his personal feast. I believed that it was probable that I was created to be his personal destruction.

For a moment, hope blossomed in my heart. "That's your name, right?" Squeezing my eyes shut, I swallowed hard. The hope that had sprung in my heart had just withered. The next group of words that he uttered sent a spark of fury rushing through my very being. "Give up." "What?" I snapped, turning to look at him. He let out a shaky breath and winced. "I'm no longer the Keegan you used to know. I am an assassin. I don't care about whatever feelings you have for me. You are lucky to have survived. I don't make mistakes. I simply kill."

We locked the dungeon’s door and walked back toward the bedroom, making sure to walk in the shadows as we did, careful not to be seen. We entered the bedroom and I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief when we did, wrapping my arms around Iris and pulling her in for a hug. The two of us were yet to grieve over who was once the best assassin of her time. She was known for her strength, power, and purity. The idea of her betraying the way she did would have never occurred to my mind had we not lived through it, and seeing that she tried hitting two birds with one stone, and that one of those birds was Iris and I didn’t come as pleasing to me.
