The Way He Looked at Me
He kisses me again slow, devastating, stripping me bare.
“Because this time,” he breathes against my mouth, “it’s the last time. The last time I’ll ever fall in love. It’s you and me. From here to the end. It has to be. I’ll never feel this way about anyone else.”
My heart convulses.
It seizes, tightens, aches then beats again. Pain and rhythm tangled together, crushing my chest until I can’t breathe, can’t speak, can’t even think. I’m trapped inside my own body while he holds me like I might break apart in his arms.
