Debris battered her—logs, stones—leaving bruises that bloomed like dark flowers across her ribs and hips. Finally, the current weakened, depositing her onto a gravelly bank lined with twisted, leafless trees. Lyra crawled from the shallows, coughing up water that tasted of earth and blood. Her body trembled, every muscle screaming as she collapsed face-down in the mud. The Dead Lands. She'd heard the pack's elders whisper of this forsaken stretch—barren soil poisoned by ancient curses, where no wolf tread without madness creeping in. The air hung heavy, thick with the scent of decay and something sharper, like ozone before a lightning strike.

Thanks, brain, I guess. I can hear footsteps coming at me and shouts of bitch you will never get away with this! As I turn to the corner, my ears are suddenly surrounded by faint chatters from people getting louder. A song is still ringing through my earphones as Agon screamed: THE WORLD IS CRUEL THE WORLD IS UNFAIR BUT WE SHOULDN'T BLAME THE WORLD FOR ITS PEOPLE THAT NEVER CARED NATIONS SHALL UNITE BUT WE CREATED WARS I CAN'T BELIEVE MOST OF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD

In the end, he bent down and scooped Chloe up into his arms. As he passed by the bodyguards, his voice shook ever so slightly as he ordered, “No matter what, you must get Nora out for me! She hasn’t given Chloe her bone marrow yet. She can’t die!” Outside the hospital emergency room, Elijah and Tyler paced back and forth restlessly. Their phones rang continuously, but they kept cutting the calls. After an agonizingly long wait, several of their men rushed over, completely out of breath. “Mr. York, Mr. Benson… the house… It’s been burned down to nothing but a charred frame. The young miss… Miss Benson, she… All we found is a single, badly burned corpse.”

Naomi and Wayne stood at the center, each holding a child, looking every bit the picture of a perfect family of four. I stood silently in the crowd, watching that scene. Taking a bite of matcha cake, the sweetness on my tongue turned bitter. Without sparing them another glance, I walked out of the hotel. Sliding into the car Wayne had once given me with matching license plates, the cold voice of the system filled my head, and dizziness overtook me. "Host, your departure time has arrived. Countdown: three, two, one…" I closed my eyes. From that moment on, Arden Sharpe no longer existed in this world.

"Please, check again… There has to be something wrong with the footage." He looked up, his face streaked with tears and snot. "So does this mean parallel worlds actually exist?" The officer shook him off, irritated. "If someone's missing, go file a report. Don't interfere with our work." The door shut in his face. Liam collapsed onto the cold ground, as if all the strength had drained out of him. A broken sound tore out of his throat. The golden boy everyone once admired had turned into someone strangers stared at on the street.

The battle begins to clear a bit, I march forward searching for more foes but then an explosion rings out a good distance from me, an incendiary cannonball detonates in front of me releasing its payload of burning, the world goes silent as I immediately block the ordinance with my shield but the force from the blast is still enough to blow me back. I feel a powerful thud on my head as I hit the ground back first. My vision becomes increasingly blurred, I see other Legionnaires around me coated in flames, with their screams being slowly muffled by the effects of my own head slowly dying. Maybe this is my time, I will finally die. Again I am wrong as I feel myself being lifted on top of a shie
