The Billion Dollar Contract
Barely enough for food to get us through the night.
We walked to the nearest ATM, and I stood in front of it staring at the glowing screen like it was a portal to another dimension. Behind that glass and plastic lay access to millions of dollars—my accounts, my money, my life’s work. I could withdraw thousands right now. We could get a decent hotel with clean sheets, buy real food that wasn't wrapped in plastic, and rest for the first time in days. My hand reached for my wallet, fingers brushing the cool plastic of the card I hadn't used in almost a week.
