The lamp’s broken light caught his face, unreadable as stone.
“Son of a bitch,” Matteo hissed. His rifle tracked down, aimed.
“Wait,” Nico snapped, grabbing the barrel, shoving it aside.
Marco didn’t move. He lifted one hand, not in greeting, not in surrender, but in something between. Then, without a word, he turned and disappeared into the dark where the Umbra had fled.
