It seemed to be coming from behind a nearby dune. Summoning every ounce of strength he had left, Miller rose to his feet and trudged toward the dune. With each step, the sound of running water grew louder, urging him forward. As he reached the summit, he was met with a breathtaking sight—a small, crystal-clear oasis nestled in a hollow among the dunes.

—he tugged gently—“we get somewhere safe.” Aiden nodded. They descended the dune, sand crunching softly under their boots. Aiden’s body wasn’t behaving normally. He felt… heightened. Not unstable—but tuned in, like every grain of sand and whisper of wind carried meaning. He could sense vibrations from faraway generators in the distant town. He could feel the muted hum of the vault even from here. He could hear Dante’s heartbeat clearly—steady, strong, anchoring. And beneath it all, a new undertone thrummed through him.

Hassan drove us into it without ceremony. The landscape changed completely within fifteen minutes of leaving the city. The dunes rose, properly rose, the kind that existed in photographs and that photographs always failed to adequately represent because photographs could not account for scale or silence. These were enormous. Amber and rose and deep red in the late afternoon light, their surfaces textured by wind into the specific geometry of something that had been shaped over thousands of years by a single patient force. I looked at them through the window and said nothing.

Coughing, I propped myself up on my hands and knees, pushed my hair from my face and looked out into the vista. It was a hellscape. An endless panorama of blue sand - so blue that it was difficult to discern from the sky. The swollen sun was white like molten glass. Small cerulean fires shuddered across the sand dunes, arching then receding in waves. I couldn't understand what their fuel was. The only landmarks were jagged rocks that jutted in painful intervals from the acrid land. There were no trees or plants of any kind. But for the quaver of the wind: it was forebodingly quiet.

I can feel his gaze on me, and I don't want to know what his expression is. "It was an opposite effect." Damon starts getting excited. "Kind of like the lava and the ice. How what we're used to being hot is cold here, and vice versa." He cups his hands around his mouth and takes a deep breath. "Hello!" It's weird, but even though I know he's trying to shout, I can barely hear what he said. The shout came out as a whisper. "Strange," I say. There must be something about this canyon. Does it distort sound?

Dannie strained her ears, listening for the sound again, but all she heard was the wind. “Fuck,” Dannie whispered, turned, and hurried off in the opposite direction she heard the noise. There were deabru here, lots and lots of them. She didn’t think if they saw her there she would get the welcome wagon unless the welcome wagon was a noose. Dannie hugged herself with her arms as she hurried. Her head whipped side to side, looking for any signs of a gate or way out of here. She didn’t see anything, but she heard a lot more scrambling behind her.

“Well, in case no one has not noticed it yet, the wind was blowing in our direction and as you can see, Niccoli was having an allergic reaction. That is because this specific wind carries bone dust.” Audrey revealed. She never said anything about it and kept her mouth shut throughout the journey. But the truth was, she actually had been paying close attention to their surrounding. Nero warned her beforehand about the bone dust in the air and thankfully she was not as sensitive to it, unlike Niccoli. As soon as Nero mentioned the bone and dust, Audrey tried to be vigilant of their surrounding right away. But so far, she has not noticed anything weird yet. So she decided to keep her observatio

Kimora: (Standing up quickly and running over to the edge of the hole leaning over to see how far down it goes) CONO! [Further out in the Desert of Nevada Dantzler has just now caught up to the creature who seem to have spending that time increasing its power and charging up. The desert sand seem completely untouched by any movement until Dantzler comes to a full stop, the sands of the desert explodes behind him as if a jet passed through barely skimming the top of the sands.]

’ ‘I do not think stealth is possible for this, sand makes a sound when walked upon, and you cannot fly, so what you choose to do should be enlightening and hopefully exciting’ Fafnir replied before going silent. ‘Great, you give me problems but no solutions’ Rex grumbled, looking for possible entry points, from where he was, he could not see any sign of Azulthaël, so turning back, Rex slid down the dune and moved around until he guessed one-quarter of the circle in distance from his last position and climbed once more, slowing at the top and peeking over, ‘Shit, is this the wrong nest, or has he been eaten?’

I was about going into the house when I caught sight of a familiar figure that turned out to be him. I went closer. It was a windy morning. Damian stood on top of a heap of golden sand that looked black in the dim light preceding dawn. The wind blew particles of sand all around him. It tousled his hair, made the loose, unbuttoned shirt billow out behind him, but he didn't seem to notice. He stood as still as a sculpture, staring out towards the vast desert. "Damian," I called out when I got close enough to be heard over the moaning of the wind.
