I could see fire blazing above me, hear the screaming of those caught in the flames, as I continued to claw my way back to the surface. I am Ember’s only hope of survival. My mate needs me and I’m not going to let some elves bury me alive, leaving her to die. When the earth begins slowly closing beneath us, I push to the surface again, lifting my head in the air, trying to find her scent among the scent of fire, water, earth, and air, intermingled with burned flesh and blood. I hear a scream of agony a moment before we’re all blown off our feet by the strongest blast of fire I’ve ever seen or felt. I roll when I feel my fur burning, quickly extinguishing the fire on my body.

She found it hard to talk at first because it appeared that she had been crying for a while and her voice was hoarse. "M-miss R-r-ic-ca..." I hoped it was not what I was thinking. Was she the mother the book was talking about? "What's wrong? Tell me Kim." Someone else took the phone from her. His voice was clearer and he was not a child but a grown man. "I am Zion, a firefighter. The orphanage caught fire and the children pulled the alarm. We are at the scene and I was asked to contact you."

Bruno received several calls from people who knew he was taking flight that day. What Enola was telling him about every disappointment becoming a blessing became so clear to him. He knew he didn't deserve to escape that crash, those that were victims, he wasn't better than they were. He just had to find a way to appreciate God's marvelous work on his head, that not withstanding, he still had to take the next flight. When Alexia’s call entered, Bruno’s heart was already beating, he wondered what he had to say to her as both of them were supposed to be victims.
