Audio Book Novels & Stories

"Not before I read it first." Beck rolls her eyes. She's not big on reading, and she never misses a chance to call Diana and me four-eyed bookworms—which, to be fair, we are. She's more of a cheesy rom-com movie chick. I tried to introduce her to audiobooks, but I think she made it halfway through the first one I gave her before passing out. I remember finding her on the couch, snoring with her mouth wide open, as a baritone-voiced man narrated love scenes into her earbuds loud enough that the sound leaked out and I could hear him. The memory still makes me laugh.

But he was talking softly and being gentle and not being the big bad Alpha that I had heard he was. “I actually like a lot of books. No genre in particular. I like The Harry Potter Series. They were really good. And A Tale of Two Cities. I like a lot of V.C. Andrews books. They’re really interesting.” I explained. And without realising it, I stopped fiddling with my dress and started looking out the front window of the car. I felt like I was finally relaxing a little. And I saw a small smile creep across Alpha Connor’s face.

The hot audiobook narrator continued in his breathy voice, “I demanded, pulling her close by her hair.” Damon raised his brow, and I quickly blurted, “Alexa, play Despacito.” But of course, I had an iPhone, and the audiobook kept going, the voice actor whispering, “‘Mhmm, good girl. Now touch it—fuck, yes.’” I pursed my lips hearing the groan, and Damon crossed his arms when I went back into the bathroom and stopped the audiobook. I finally took a breath and slowly walked out, even though I wanted to die from embarrassment.

He shifts back; putting a seat between us and truly looking horrified. Bibah simply shakes her head at our childish shenanigans and takes a sip of her iced latte, metal straw clinking in the Hydro Flask. “The Awoo Book Club’s pick for this week is H.P Lovecraft.” She pats the voluminous book atop the pile and I notice it’s the library copy of H.P Lovecraft’s Omnibus 3. “I’m so excited to roast his ass.”

The blind man heaved a sigh but he didn’t say anything again, he didn’t want to annoy her again. “I will feed you while reading a book, okay?” “Sure, what book are we reading today?” “Uhhmmm” Audrey giggled, “let me check my shelf” She checked for a while and finally grabbed a book from the shelf and made her way back to the bed. “Guess the book I have” Nathan shrugged with a smile, “I can’t guess babe, I am a blind man remember?” “Ugly love by Colleen Hoover, it is a very good book and I have read it a thousand times”

he called back, his voice warm as sunlight. The sound of the door clicking shut was the last thing I heard before sleep reclaimed me, pulling me back into its embrace. *** I found myself rummaging through a stack of books that likely belonged to Jacob from his university years. None of them were fiction. These were all about life lessons and self-improvement. Titles like Rich Mindset and Atomic Habits caught my eye, their well-worn spines suggesting they had been thoroughly read. But one title stood out above the rest, stopping me cold:

Realizing what he had done, he sighed, and his shoulders sagged. “Buckley watches documentaries on his laptop. As-“ His eyes went wide as they landed on his mother and her cocked eyebrow as she realized what he started to say. “He doesn’t know how to use headphones and we all get to listen to whatever he has on. Lately it’s been Greek and Roman history.” “At least you are learning something.” Jaxon laughed. “I sympathize.” Ty gave him a small salute. “There’s a guy on shift that listens to audiobooks. Let me correct that. There’s a guy that plays audiobooks for the rest of us.”

It's still an odd feeling but I think I’m getting used to it. “How is she?” Athena asks. “She cried herself to sleep watching A Walk to Remember.” I tell her. Rhea sighs. “That’s no good. She dies in the end.” “Yeah, so I’ve heard and apparently the book was worse. I don’t remember seeing her reading it.” Rhea cringes and fidgets nervously. “I may have gifted the audio book to her.” Of course, she did. My sisters are just as bad as me when it comes to spoiling Lilly and Blue. So, if Blue mentioned the book my sister would buy it even if Blue didn’t ask. Just mentioning it would be enough, and clearly that’s what happened here.

And no doubt, have hot dreams about it. It’s another book suggestion from her. I’ve just finished the last one she recommended, and honestly, I shouldn’t dive into another. Once I start reading, I lose myself completely. But this time, she’s telling me to listen to it. Audiobook. That’s new. Before I even realize what I’m doing, I click the link she sent, and in a matter of seconds, the book is purchased and playing through my home speakers. I settle back in bed, letting the narrator’s deep voice wash over me, and within moments, I realize Lucy’s sent me a stalker romance. Great.

I said, grinning from teeth to teeth like a child. We walked into the library. It looked like it had been a while, since it was in use. We went through several sections which included, finance, self-improvement, ethics, business amongst all. I caught a glimpse of a book I had been wanting to read, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. I picked it immediately, and started going through it. After a while, I noticed I wasn't hearing any sound from the cook. I looked around and found her wiping tears off her eyes with the hem of her apron.
