After searching through the shelves, I found the book I had been waiting to read for ages but couldn’t. After last time’s incident when I fell off the ladder, I gave up reading sitting on it. Instead, I sat down on the floor. With my legs crossed, I put on my AirPods and started reading. I was halfway through the eighth chapter when I caught someone come in my direction from the corner of my eyes. I didn’t react and continued reading. Her younger sister connected her phone to the tiny Bluetooth speaker her mother gifted her last year, and the voices of characters from her favourite audiobook echoed in the room. Hana chuckled. Cara frowned. Hana was the first one to react, she reached for her younger sister’s hand, and her head lowered to Cara’s shoulder. They stayed in their bubble, listening to the audiobook and the calm voice of the narrator telling them about characters that didn’t exist, characters with a better life. And for a little while, Hana was able to pretend everything was fine.

His hands trembled as he dialed a number and made an international call. "Where's the girl?" he asked. "Are you talking about the girl you had kidnapped and shipped off abroad?" In a minute, I’m already lost in the world of ‘Ponyboy Curtis’, the book’s narrator.

"Ohh... hmmm. I-I w- was just... I was just... I was just having a hard time understanding something that I have read from the book. I was busy pondering over it, that is why I was in a daze." Back in the car, I stared at the cover for a long time. I didn’t even open it. Just held it.
