“I’ve seen this before.” Hernandez looked at his partner in surprise. Everything came to a screeching halt, and silence followed. I froze as my pupils dilated in horror. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the tiny, lifeless body lying on the ground. I'd spent seven years with that precious pup. Dot had been the only thing tethering me to something real and warm through countless lonely nights.

The first thing I notice when I come to is the cold. Where am I? I feel around for purchase only to find smooth marble. It runs up the walls and all around me feels like a marble tomb. I was going to ignore it and just go about my day, but my eyes caught something quite absurd. On the bottom shelf, just on the extreme right, there was a book about vampires. It was hard to notice at first but when I picked it up and blew off the dust, it became more obvious. On skimming through the book, it was just about the unique anatomy of vampires. But what piqued my interest was that everything in it looked handwritten and hand drawn. It was like the documentation of a person's findings on my species.

But the car accelerated and slammed into me. The impact sent me flying several feet. I coughed up blood, feeling as if my organs had been shattered. In my dazed state, I saw Mona step out of the car, smiling. "Sorry, Jolene. I'm just learning to drive, and I mistook the gas for the brake." A moment later, I blacked out. In my haze, I heard Marcel anxiously asking the doctor when I would wake up. Douglas clutched my hand tightly and kept wiping the cold sweat from my brow as if we had returned to the past.

Ludo asked scared. “Don’t worry darling,” Erica rubbed her eyes. “I don’t like the light in this room,” she complained. Evan looked at her and reached for the manuscript in the drawer of a table. He walked to Ludo.
