Off Limits
Two women by the fruit stand, their voices pitched low but sharp with interest.
“Have you seen him lately? Grayson Carter.”
“Oh, yes. And not alone. He’s been with… a young girl.”
A pause, followed by a knowing hum.
“Not his daughter?”
“No. Someone else. They were too close, if you ask me. Poor Mia.”
The words sliced into me before I could stop them. My hand trembled, nearly slipping the carton. I turned away quickly, my throat tight, my pulse hammering.
Another voice joined—older, amused, like gossip was her daily bread.
