The doors slid open with a racket as hundreds of gangsters with machetes poured out. They surrounded us and glared at the scarred man and his crew. "What's this? Did Mr. Amos hire another gang to do his bidding too?" the scarred man muttered. A man in his 30s stepped out of one of the vans and bellowed, "I'm Jackie Cruz of the Dragoons! Which one of you motherfuckers tried to lay hands on Mr. Grimwald?!" He kicked the scarred man, sending him sprawling to the ground.

He nodded at the officer, then looked back at her with a heat that promised this wasn’t over. “Seatbelt,” he murmured, voice still wrecked. She clicked hers on with shaking hands. The cab pulled back into traffic. But nothing was the same. Not anymore. Especially not after she felt his wanting. Especially not after she admitted her own. When Giancarlo dropped her in front of her building, neither spoke. She reached for the door handle. “Sienna.” His voice was deep. Soft. The smell of cinnamon, pine, and fresh cookies filled the air. “MARCO!” Her voice rang behind the counter.
