I thanked the man and saved his contact information to my phone in case I ever needed to speak with the man again. In the end, Lenore actually broke up with me, which was a relief. I had been dreading the end of our contract because she had started showing up at all hours in her 'Little' state. Not only that, I was getting tired of my role as Daddy. Still, having her show up didn't bother me too much. But I would sometimes have her cousin Gayle, who had just started working in the office in the club, babysit her. If I left Lenore alone too long she would get into mischief. Like the time she took sharpies and colored all over the faces and bodies of her baby dolls.

“You’re bold enough to yell at me and crazy enough to argue with me. That’s rare. And entertaining.” She crossed her arms, refusing to lose. “So you just want entertainment from your secretary?” “No,” he said flatly. “But if you’re going to babysit me—which is basically what secretaries do—I need someone who won’t faint every time I raise my voice.” She almost laughed. Babysit? Really? “Babysit you? Sir, last time I checked, taking care of you is not part of the job description.” Their eyes locked. Lukas, cold and arrogant. Shaina, brave but playful. Neither wanted to back down.

Viciously, she laughed out loud it felt as though the universe was in her favour. "Roman, Roman, Roman, my dear. Just you wait and see what I'll do to you and your useless kids. Conceivably, that goddamn babysitter of a girl, all of you! This game of ours is just got messier." She muttered meanly, and then, began to laughed sinisterly again.

In a cozy room filled with colorful toys and books, Theo, a curious and energetic 3-year-old, sat on the floor surrounded by his favorite stuffed animals. His nanny, Hazel, a kind and patient young woman, sat beside him with a book in her hands, ready to embark on a magical storytelling journey. Hazel: "Are you ready for a story, Theo?" Theo: "Yes, Hazel! Story, story!" Hazel smiled warmly and began to read from the book, her voice gentle and soothing as she brought the words to life.

I was exasperated, disagreeing with her brilliant idea. Now here's the thing. It's not like my mother never appointed babysitters for me when she had business trips and contests to judge. But, all in vain, there were hundreds of complaints registered against me which led them to quit the job- which had a pretty fair pay- and now those files are probably rotting somewhere in the attic. These babysitters even took payment for their damages. I'm not a monster or anything but it's just their necessity stuff used to mesmerize me and as a curious explorer child, I was prompted to check them out.

He is the troublemaker. But they were both utterly glued to me all the time, their chubby arms reaching for me even when Blair tried to coax them into playing with her. “They’re obsessed with you” Blair said one evening watching as I juggled the two of them on my lap. “They’re smart” I joked, pressing kisses to their cheeks. “They know who carried them for months.” “Three months” Blair corrected with a small smirk. *** The babysitter we’d found was a teenage girl named Tara who lived in the apartment above us. She was thin and pale, with dark circles under her eyes that made her look older than she was.

Jake ruffled Noah’s hair with his hand and looked toward me. “His babysitter canceled on me at the last second. She did worse than cancel she quit.” “She quit?” I asked, in surprise. Jake looked down at Noah and gave him a little wink. “Why don’t you get back to your books, kiddo?” Noah went over to his little play area and started coloring again. Jake took a step towards me.

Dad lied. My backpack felt heavier than usual, not just with books but with the weight of every broken promise. I dug my nails into my palms, trying to focus on the biting chill of the Aurelia evening instead of the tremor in my hands. New mission: survive the Sterlings. New reality: I was their charity case, Charles Sterling’s personal babysitter. His babysitter. The thought made bile rise in my throat.

Lola greeted me cheerfully and said, "Hey Danica. What brings you here?" She let me into her apartment and motioned for me to sit down. I could afford to spend time with her. Besides, work had been hectic for me recently. "I wanted to talk to you about something urgent sis." Lola plopped down on the couch and said, "Sure, we can always talk about anything."
