It was sweeter than red blood and went down more easily—and it ran through her veins faster. Within moments, she felt reborn, and stronger than she’d ever had. She could have drank forever. Caitlin finally set down the empty goblet, and took the silver case with her to bed. She lay down, and realized how sore her legs were. It felt so good to just lay there.

Chapter 54: The Bloody Ending The night was dark, the sky heavy with the weight of impending storm clouds, as Dante stood over the wreckage of what had once been a place of refuge. His hands were bloodstained, his thoughts clouded with rage, and his heart twisted with vengeance. The events of the past days had led him here, to the final confrontation with El Cado, and nothing, not even his growing love for Isla, could stop what needed to be done.

"How? Do you mean Zach Howe? That useless trust fund brat? Has Ethan completely lost his mind? Has Tara eaten away at his brain? Associating with someone like him? Haha! Well, it won't be long before Ethan's name disappears from society entirely." Zach was not just a spoiled rich kid. He was dangerous and had blood on his hands. Ethan playing in his territory would leave nothing but scraps of bone behind. "Aren't you even a little curious why he's doing this?" "I'm not curious. His business isn't mine. Alright, I've got things to do. Hanging up now."

I question. The doctor holds his hand out to one of his goons. They gave him my notes. He licks his finger and begins flicking through them. My notes are thick considering I’ve only been in hospital this once. He stops flicking and runs his finger down a page. “Ah here we go,” he says. “Phase 1 is abnormal behavior. Behaviors such as anger and aggression, which you remember doing.” He continues. Well, that sounds right. He’s definitely done his research.

Fuck, fuck, fuck. This day was the worst ever! She had lost her patient, despite having worked desperately hard to revive him. He'd died before they'd gotten him out of the gang yard. She was still wearing the same scrubs, splattered in his blood. She didn't want to slow down long enough to change. She could change when she got there. Throwing a few items of clothes into a backpack, she gathered up her bags and ran out to her car.

Her goosebumps broke out over her skin, her senses throbbing, her blood heating. How embarrassing. And, okay, how intriguing. Since the car accident that wrecked her life many months ago, she had experienced arousal only at night, in her dreams. To react like this in daylight, because of a book... strange. She didn’t allow herself to contemplate why. There wasn’t any explanation that would convince her. Rather, she focused on the pages in front of her. They were yellowed and fragile, delicate. And beaded with blood? Small dots of dried crimson soiled the edges. Gently, she caressed her fingertips along the handwritten text, her gaze catching much information.

He was breathing hard, his robes stained with soot. ​"Stay away from me!" she cried, her hands trembling as she held them out. Small sparks of blue fire danced between her fingers. "You lied to me. My whole life... you told me magic was a disease. You told me the Bloodbound were monsters!" ​"You are a monster, Seraphina," he said, his voice cracking with a mix of fear and pity. "I tried to hide you. I tried to suppress your blood so you could live a normal life. But the demon found you. He’s woken the hunger inside you."
