Darkness overwhelms and I lose myself into the sinking abyss. I blink open my eyes and immediately sit up. Looking around myself, I let out a breath as I realise that it was a dream. A nightmare. It felt so real and so heart-breaking to watch him claim another. I whimper at the memory and feel wetness on my cheeks. Lifting my hand to my cheeks, I feel tears running down my cheeks. Giving in to the urge, I sob silently, covering my face with my hands and propping them on my knees.

My vision blurred, tears mixing with the liquid streaming down my face. Wait. Not tears. Blood. Blood was coming from my eyes. I reached up, touching my face, and my fingers came away red. "Elara!" Draven's voice was raw with fear. My nose. I could taste it running down the back of my throat. More blood. "Help her!" someone screamed. My ears. Warm liquid trickled from them too. I tried to speak, tried to tell them I was scared, but all that came out was more blood.

I wildly buck into her, but her face becomes blurry and the image of a blonde with those electric blues comes flooding back skewing my vision.

I slowly turn round and stare into yellow eyes that are unmistakably dragon eyes. But that’s all I see. The rest of the dragon's features are shrouded in a big cloud of smoke. I sit up in bed sweating. Ever since Aurum has shifted I frequently dream of dragon eyes. Each next dream is more unsettling and threatening than the previous. The first few dreams I only had the feeling of being watched. Then I could see the dragon eyes in the distance. But tonight was the first night it was close.

Even as my control grows, the nightmares follow. I dream of Rhea again, but she’s not herself. She stands at the top of a mountain of ash, wearing a crown that... bleeds. Her eyes are molten gold, and her mouth is set in a smile I’ve never seen on her before. It's cold, divine and unreachable. Around her, the world burns. Wolves howl in agony. The skies scream. I try to reach her but she lifts her hand, and my storm dies in the air. I wake up gasping.

Over and over, the same horrifying scenario played out, each cycle leaving her more drained, her breathing more shallow, until her mind could no longer distinguish between dream and reality. As the dream began to blur, her eyes fluttered open, heavy with exhaustion. Tears streamed down her face, unchecked, as she stared blankly at the ceiling, the remnants of her nightmare was clinging to her like a dark shadow. Her breath hitched in her throat as she blinked, slowly gathering the strength to sit up.

“We'll work it out." She let out a faint chickle, her gaze turning to mine. "No, we won't." At that moment, something inside her broke. "I dreamed again," she whispered. "An additional vision." I tensed up. "What did you observe?" Her tone was aloof. "Smoke. Blood. Wolves on their knees in the ground. And where I should be, there's a shadow.” My skin pricked with goosebumps. I dream about dark brown eyes again. Eyes that simmer and dilate with lust as I float naked over an endless pit. Then, gravity attacks me all of a sudden and I fall deeper and deeper into the pit without end. I wake, my mouth still open in a silent scream from the dream. But then I realize…I wasn’t exactly scared in the dream. Just shocked. And I don’t know why but I can’t shake off the feeling that there is something symbolic about the dream.
