The stuff toy isn’t the reason why he’s happy. Countless efforts were done just to win the game and he was surprised that he, the Alpha of the Holmes pack, enjoyed things such as this. Brett instantaneously put a serious face as if to regain his composure. What’s more, he threw the giraffe stuff toy to Maxine.

I’m terrified of Wyatt, but I don’t think he would stand a chance against you.” Bratt’s smile was bright and radiant before he touched his forehead to mine. “That’s right, Marley,” he said. “I’d tear him apart if he so much as tried to touch you.” Despite the violent sentiment, despite the fact that I’d just spent who knew how long crying and quivering, I found myself smiling back at him. For some reason, Bratt always managed to make me laugh or smile, even when it felt impossible.

I recalled what was written on the slip earlier and knew I hadn't misread it. I was about to go onstage to explain when thunderous applause broke out across the hall. "Congratulations, Katie Thorpe! You've won first prize this year—a three-day trip to Marosa!"
