Molly caught the door before it smashed into her friend. Hannah grinned at him. “Thanks. Bring it around to the back.” Molly held the doors as Hannah and Nicholas carried the heavy boxes out to the alley behind the shop. A large float sat waiting for them. Sitting in the center of the float, surrounded by fake snow and oversized brightly-wrapped boxes was a Christmas tree. Except it wasn't a real tree. It was two ten-foot tall plywood cutouts of Christmas trees slid into one another to form a four pointed tree. The strange part was that it was filled from top to bottom with small drilled holes.

Lowering myself to her level, I held her shoulders gently and brushed a strand of hair from her face. “No,” I said softly. “No, honey. You just had a nightmare. That’s all.” She didn’t look convinced. “Mummy has no reason to hurt Daddy,” I added quickly. “I’ll be back soon. And guess what? We’re spending Christmas here with Grandma and Uncle Elliot.” Her face lit up instantly. “Yeah.” “I’m just going to get a few things for Christmas,” I said. “I’ll be back.” I turned away before she could ask anything else.

BANG. The shot cracked through the room, and almost on instinct, Barbie moved forward, shoving her uncle to the ground just as the bullet shot past and hit one of the wine shelves, sending bottles of wine crashing to the ground. Two men moved into the room, holding guns, and without thinking, Barbie reached for one of the bottles that didn’t break from their fall. She threw it with precision, and it landed smack in the face of one, knocking him out. She threw a second bottle, but this time she wasn’t as lucky.
