I could see no love for me in those blue savage eyes, they only held greed for the blood of a corpse. The hockey bat was locked on my head, and he raised the bat in the air just to whip the life out of me. I could see the bat reaching my head but before I could feel the numbing pain, it vanished. “No! Stop!” I shouted before my eyes could focus on the external world. I blinked many times just to adjust my sight and see if I was really bruised but I caught myself sitting on the bed while panting with a dried throat. Oh, Jesus, that was a nightmare. A terrible, life-sucking nightmare. It could even take my life in my slumber.

I packed what little we had. The night before we were to leave, I was jolted awake by a scream. Not a psychic ping. A real, physical, terrified scream from Lina. I scrambled to her side. She was thrashing in her sleep, her small body rigid, tears streaming down her face. The mental dampener on her ankle was glowing a faint, angry red. It was overloading. POV Kitty Cash and Locke guided me back down to our room quietly. We didn't want to risk being overheard. We finally got to the door and the guards parted for us as Locke typed in the code. "I need this code changed tonight. We've had some new developments and Nick is no longer allowed in this room or near any of the witches. He knew the old code so have someone switch it as soon as possible and inform me of the new one." Locke commanded one of the guards as we walked in.
