Basil Hallward Novels & Stories

Using my arm as a pillow I felt my cold aching body be pulled the darkness. ——————————————————— The sun rays penetrated through the windows, assaulting my pupils and turning the inside of my eyelids red. Telling me the sun had risen. Groggily I sat up and looked around the small room I was last night now we're a light wood colour. With the scent of rain no longer blocking my smell my nose hairs were singed but the stench of blood and urine. But it had provided cover from the storm last night, and in my situation I was glad to have slept in such a room.

I did not want Emily to start getting suspicious and anxious. Basilia took us to a room located at the base of the temple. "This room would muffle any cries and screams," she told my father. "It will also guarantee that no unforeseen guests will disturb you throughout the procedure." After my father thanked her, Basilia departed to await the arrival of her son and his mate. It came sooner than I had anticipated, and I have been in excruciating pain nonstop ever since. "I think it is the same night Emily's life changed, and she lost her memories," Ghost growled.

An hour later Basil led us down the staircase back to the foyer and then turned left down another long hallway. The steps leading down to the basement were polished wood and they squeaked as we stepped on them. The first part of the basement were well lit and I could hear the whirr of an extraction fan and it smelled like bleach.

"Conscience and cowardice are really the same things, Basil. Conscience is the trade-name of the firm. That is all." "I don't believe that, Harry, and I don't believe you do either. However, whatever was my motive—and it may have been pride, for I used to be very proud—I certainly struggled to the door. There, of course, I stumbled against Lady Brandon. 'You are not going to run away so soon, Mr. Hallward?' she screamed out. You know her curiously shrill voice?" "Yes; she is a peacock in everything but beauty," said Lord Henry, pulling the daisy to bits with his long nervous fingers.
