The air vibrates with its rage. Shadows rise from the ground, twisting into a form—tall, inhuman, watching me. A hand reaches toward me and then—Everything goes black.

Something hits the back of my head and my face plants into the dirt. When I shakily lift my head, I see herds of familiars rushing to the black hole. I keep my head low and watch as mangled bodies fly over me and disappear into the black hole, slowly becoming smaller until completely gone. Some cackling with joy, others using their unique way to sound joy. Repulsion takes the place of the panic. Blood drips from some of the injured, others purposely fly close for one last taunting of those pinned to the ground.

We both almost get hit on the face and on the head by low hung branches. I know I shouldn't look back to see what those things are flying towards us, but something seems to be compelling me to go do it. A voice seems to be whispering in my head and telling me that I should look. And no matter what I do, I can't shake it off my mind. Then I end up turning around to see the things flying towards us. Bats. Gigantic black bats with red eyes and sharp fangs, their wings as wide as a fence. They're screeching and flying lower, their sharp claws outstretched.

He swallowed. His face had become pale. "They're not speaking words." The man's hands trembled. "But they're calling." A cold sensation moved through Evelyn's chest. She was beginning to hear them too. Thousands of distant whispers. None understandable. Yet all moving toward the same destination. The black spire. The mark suddenly burned. Images exploded across her vision without warning. She saw endless darkness. A sky without stars. An ocean stretching beyond the horizon. At the center of that ocean stood the same black spire.

The bird beat its wings once and flew out into the night, disappearing into the black sky like a ghost. I stood there for a long time watching it go. They thought the worst thing that could happen was fire.They really don’t know what’s about to hit.

“What, really?!” Asphalt and Code Nine stopped from their tracks as they looked up. Xiao stopped also and she saw one humongous thing right in front of her. It was unexplainable and indescribable, but she had a gist what was it. It was dark as if it was encircling something as it moves. “Wait… I think I know this.” “Yes, it’s a black hole.” Xiao was unable to speak for a moment before she shook her head, “But you do know that whoever enters this—”

Elder Matthias' presence loomed just behind us, a solid force of age-old wisdom bracing against the unknown. Wicked birds, myriad and menacing, filled the sky, their black feathers absorbing the last vestiges of light. They circled in a chaotic pattern, a maelstrom of wings and screeches that tore at the fabric of serenity which had once blanketed our realm.
