Bella sat curled in an oversized armchair, a sketchbook in her lap, actually drawing for the first time since we'd brought her here.
I stood in the doorway for a moment, just watching. She'd changed in the week since we'd brought her to the cabin. The bruises had faded to yellow-green shadows. She'd gained a few pounds, filling out the hollows in her cheeks. She smiled more, laughed occasionally, and the constant wariness in her eyes had dimmed slightly.
She was healing. And she was breathtaking.
"You're staring again," she said without looking up, a hint of amusement in her voice.
