Suddenly, the server room lights turned a violent, flashing crimson. A low growl echoed from the shadows behind the cooling units. "Myra, get behind me," I whispered, the gold light from my arm illuminating the room. Out of the darkness stepped something that wasn't human. It was a "Sequence 8" prototype—a sleek, hairless hound with glowing optic sensors and muscles reinforced with carbon-fiber weave. It didn't bark. It hissed, the sound of a computer trying to scream.

The vault door slammed shut, locking us in with the Oracle, the King, and the Gears of the First Luna. "The Eighth Cycle was a circle," Jackson said, stepping toward me. "The Ninth was a point. But the Tenth... the Tenth is a mirror. And I'm going to break you inside it."
