They promised redemption but it was false as they evolved into ferocious beasts, whom humans dreaded. Their species hurt humans for years, until research out that Mercury weakens them. But unlike the natural Mercury, this metallic substance was found in the cave that linked them to earth. A cave that couldn't be weakened or destroyed by any earthly weapons.
