My bones know it's him, and I walk across the restaurant until I'm standing next to the table. His chocolate eyes mirror mine, an unfamiliar hardness shining in them. He's a ghost. An apparition. A twilight phantom, all mixed in one, brought back to life for a single night, for a single purpose. To haunt me until he puffs back into the elusive dust he really is. "Hello, Hannah." As if I don't have enough nightmares to deal with.

The horror of their words clawed at my sanity. Distant voices clawed at the edges of my mind, their words searing into my consciousness... "I'll butcher your damn child and make you watch every second!" "I’ll tear it apart and send the pieces for DNA testing." "Whose bastard is this? There's no record of him anywhere, the ghost doesn't exist!" "Now, you'll watch as your child bleeds out, right before your eyes."

“Let me see if I can explain this so that it makes sense.” He walked into the ensuite bathroom to get a drink of water before returning to explain his meaning behind the statement that the house was haunted, but not with ghosts. “When something or someone haunts, he, she, or it manifests itself into a space that it normally would not belong in. It does not have to be a dead person. It could be an object or a live person or even an animal.” “I’m not following you,” I mumbled. I didn’t want to admit to him that, although I wasn’t one-hundred percent sure what he was talking about, something about it felt correct.

I only hope I don't have to be murdered in order for that to happen. Arlo drives me home and the moon follows us. I hate Halloween, what used to be costumes and fun. Is now fear, panic, and an asshole laughing in a Haunted House. Nothing is scarier than this Halloween. As Arlo squeezes my hand, I know I can face the demons and ghosts of tonight with him by my side. To make sure its not in my head, I squeeze his hand and he squeezes mine a little tighter bringing a little bit of happiness back with it.

On a trance he continued to walk ahead towards the mansion. "Our phones are dead. I need to call somebody for help. My wife is laying there unconscious." He points to his broken car.

I was frozen in shock, my mind struggling to comprehend the sheer scale of the horror unfolding before me. Haven's eyes, still an unnatural white, gleamed with an otherworldly power as she stood at the center of the maelstrom, her chanting growing louder, more insistent. “Darling, what are you doing?” I ventured the question in a tone that was deliberately measured, careful not to inflame the situation further. My words hung in the air like a fragile truce, as I waited for Haven's response, her white eyes gleaming with an unnerving intensity amidst the swirling chaos of the undead horde.

Every time I closed my eyes, Anton’s voice slipped back in. The hospital is haunted. The words echoed in my head, over and over, like they were looking for a place to settle.
