“Please, go ahead. You’ll have to forgive us. We’re all a little…jumpy today.” “It’s okay, I understand,” he says, giving me a broad smile and lighting his cigarette. As he concentrates on his lighter, I take him in. He’s tall, for a Beta, almost Victor’s height, with wavy black hair and swarthy skin. His nose is a little too large, but it suits his broad, well-intentioned face. I smile back at him. “What’s your name?” “Edgar,” he says, tossing me a salute. “Beta Edgar, at you service.”

'What is Edgar up to? The male trainees filed in, led by a young man with an air of calm detachment. Debra recognized him as Oscar, the captain of the male trainees. She'd seen him on the training ground, his prowess impressive. Oscar's eyes flicked to Edgar, a slight frown creasing his brow, but he didn't halt. Tomas nudged him. "That guy looks quite like you." Another boy chimed in, "Don't be ridiculous. That's Edgar Odom, the Booton tycoon."

San Diego had me feeling differently. It was like I became Alex Gray the moment I drove into the city. My personality changed over the following two weeks as I followed Jordan Reed. It's hard to believe that this jerk is the most feared bully in this academy. He moves like a sloth, with no coordination whatsoever. He doesn't think before attacking; he only aimless tries to land a punch or kick on me. He tries many times to bring me down, but I skillful evade all his attempts and let him tire himself out.

Edgar must choose if he’ll go visit the gravesite or locate his former partner. If Edgar chooses to visit the gravesite, he’ll see his mom and brother there. His brother is now a cop and works for the department. He vows to catch Edgar’s killer and make him pay for what he’s done. Mom cries. You know how women break out the water-works. Edgar watches his family from afar and decides not to confront them because he doesn’t want to shock them. He instead returns to the lab.

He told himself he just wanted an autograph. The door to Edgar’s trailer was slightly ajar. Light spilled out from inside. Felix hesitated, then knocked softly. The door opened. Edgar Briggs stood there in nothing but worn jeans slung low on his hips, his chest still glistening with sweat from the arena. His dark eyes locked onto Felix with calm intensity. “Can I help you?” Edgar asked, voice low and rough like gravel. Felix swallowed hard, holding up the rodeo program he’d bought earlier. “I… I was hoping for an autograph. That last ride was incredible.”

I ask, his voice somewhat registering in my mind. “My name is Edgar,” he says, his voice shaky and his gray hair sprinkled with blood. I notice his right arm is limp as he stands, humble before me and I reach out to him, guiding him to a near bench carved into the wall. He smiles at me like he is in awe of being in my presence. I suppose this may be a look I will need to get used to. “How can I help you, Edgar?” I ask, returning his smile.
