She was only a few years older, but her delicate frame and youthful face made her seem the youngest beside any Goldman, her presence a quiet reminder of Wire. “I was like—uh—uhm—” she snapped her fingers, laughing softly, the sound fragile in the engine’s roar. “Seventeen when I started college.”

In high school, Tessa Lopez was not popular with boys at all. She was slender and flat-chested like a walking stick. Moreover, the three curves turned left, right, and then left again, requiring the rider to quickly shift the direction of their lean. For an experienced rider like Bryan, who had raced these bends thousands of times, it wasn't much of an issue. But for Frederick, a beginner who had never raced here before, the danger was immense, especially at such high speeds.
