Best Bedtime Reading For Adults Novels & Stories

"Choose some to read to our baby before bed." Liam's explanation instantly made Harriet's eyes sparkle. She then began to read the pile of novels, some containing compilations of short stories, and others containing long stories about the adventures of teenagers. The soft melody of the harp and the faint sound of Harriet turning the pages of the novel made Liam feel sleepy. His body which was aching as usual made him want to sleep constantly, but this made him very annoyed. Many times he had fallen asleep wanting to spend some quality time with his wife. He didn't want to sleep anymore. He wanted to enjoy this peaceful time a little longer.

She mumbles and I nod. “He will love it. But you need to sleep for now. I will read you a bedtime story.” I offer, retrieving a book. There is a happy look on Annika’s face as I flip through the book. I begin to read her the book and I'm not even halfway done when she falls asleep.

Jax asked. Ricciardo leaned in close to him. "Sex" he whispered. "Well I can try to help you with one of them." Jax offered. "Which one?" Ricciardo asked, a mischievous look on his face. "Sleep, I might not have a TV but I have a library and I have a lot of books and novels here, I am sure if you read them before bed, you might be able to fall asleep." "Take me to this library then" Ricciardo told him.

What was I thinking of texting someone at two in the morning? I get up and walk to Mike’s nursery and Maria is asleep on the single bed in his room. I walk to the crib and I smile looking down at this perfect little boy. Maria must be tired. I put a blanket on top of her covering her body as it is a little cold today. I walk to the living room and I sit on the sofa holding my phone while I wrap myself on a blanket and turn the tv on. There’s nothing special on tv so I turn it off and I walk to the bookshelf grabbing a book about werewolves and vampires. I love this kind of supernatural romances.

I ask as Jaden sits on one side of the bed, fixing the sheets for him. "Mickey!" He smiles and I grab a Mickey Mouse book off the shelf. Jaden is a much better reader than I am, plus she gets him to fall asleep faster. Once he's asleep I kiss his head, Jaden doing so after and we shut off the lights as we leave. "Another night accomplished," Jaden smiles as we walk back downstairs. "I was thinking a whole day," I joke and she sits down on the couch. I sit next to her and she turns on the TV. She flips through the channels and I just let her watch what she wants to.

With not having a man in my life I have had a lot of spare time. I work in a local nursing home as an aide during the night. I make sure the residents are happy feed and healthy. Since I work nights and they sleep for the most part I have free time. I read or listen to books. A lot. And I have a specific taste in the choice of novels I enjoy, Romance and the dirtier and more fantasy they are the better. I may have spent over four hundred dollars on a pay for reading app within the last six months and in the last year listened to 98 Audible books totaling over 34,697 minutes of romance, 14,151 minutes of fantasy and sci-fi and 9,336 minutes of fictions. I chased him around the living room, letting him ‘catch’ me dramatically on the couch. By eight-thirty, his eyelids were drooping, so I carried him upstairs, tucked him in with his favorite dinosaur book, and read until he was out cold, his chest rising and falling steadily. The house fell quiet. I padded downstairs in my socks, the wooden steps creaking softly underfoot. I wasn't tired yet…nights like this gave me time to scroll through my phone or raid the fridge for leftovers.

It's a little comforting, but not enough to make me want to stay here. I walk over to my dresser and open the top drawer. Inside, there's a box of my favorite chocolates. I grab one and savor the sweetness as I chew. Maybe I'll read a book, I think to myself. I walk over to my bookshelf and run my fingers along the spines of the books. I choose one at random and walk back to my bed. As I read, I begin to lose myself in the story. The characters are vivid and interesting, and the plot is engaging. I don't even notice the time passing until my stomach rumbles. I glance over at the clock on my nightstand and realize that it's nearly midnight.

Only a small reading light, that illuminated the spot above Nadia’s book as she sat in bed reading, broke the darkness of the bedroom. Nadia was focused on the novel in her left hand and the warm tea in the other. She’d been unable to sleep even after several drinks at the bar. Jake had been holed up in his own penthouse all day reading about demons and how to avoid them and the infamous story of the devil at the crossroad. Nadia wasn’t offended by his absence but the distraction would be nice, she thought.

When I hesitated, I got a manipulative (but still effective) case of puppy eyes and a shaky mention of the day’s drama. At a knock at the still-open door, I looked up to see Mr. Cavendish holding Grace’s hand and a large children’s book. “Grace wants a bedtime story,” he said with a smile. “I hear this is the ‘in’ place for the evening.” “I’m so glad you don’t mind.” He shook his head reassuringly. We all four ended up on my bed, which really wasn’t big enough for it. The girls settled on one side of me, inadvertently pushing toward the center. Mr. Cavendish just made room for us all, opened the book, and began to read.
