he whispered, his voice barely louder than a breath, "can you read me a bedtime story, please?" A tender smile graced my lips as I reached for the book he kept besides him.I settled down on the edge of his bed, and the words flowed from my lips as I read about adventurous journeys and brave heroes. Noah's eyelids grew heavier, his breaths steadier, and I knew he was drifting off to sleep. Closing the book gently, I leaned down to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead. His muttered softly, "Thank you, Princess Nanny." I gave a wide smile and I rose from my seat, dimming the overhead light and leaving his bedside lamp aglow.

"I miss reading. Real reading, not just skimming parenting books at three in the morning. I used to love getting lost in novels. Just... disappearing into someone else's story for a few hours." "Then we should make time for that. Real time, not just stolen moments between feedings." "When? We barely have time to shower." "We'll figure it out. Maybe once Adrian's sleep schedule improves. Maybe we take turns, I handle an evening feeding while you read, then we switch." I studied his face, seeing the exhaustion that had become permanent. "We need to remember how to be ourselves. Not just parents, but whole people with interests and identities beyond childcare." "That sounds nice. Theoretical bu

Ava suddenly asked her kids when she remembered that it has been a while since she read them bedtime stories, to improve her mood if she spent more time with the kids than just having dinner together. Ava returned to her room later after reading two books silently to their ears in the middle of their beds, which made them drift off soon, even if they had tried to not sleep after she read the first one. She kissed them on cheeks before she left to her room, hoping that she would be able to get sleep amidst her troubled heart.

The sudden darkness in the small bedroom felt heavy. I had packed four books for this trip. Four heavy, literary novels. I had a meticulous reading schedule mapped out in my notebook. I had even curated a playlist specifically designed for reading near water. Uncle David had a lot to answer for.. When sleep had refused to come to my eyes I carefully slid out from under the sheet. I heard a disturbing, weak sound in the mattress that made my heart stopped. I took a deep breath, then waited for the slow rhythmic breathing of baby max, across the hall to tell me that nothing had been disturbed.

I would go without him, after eating, it becomes a routine for me to watch TV for an hour or two, sometimes although in rare conditions, three hours, before going to sleep implying that on days like this, I would be sleeping late, perhaps 9 or 10 PM. Watching TV becomes a favorite because it's a cool way to relax, refresh the memory and prepare for a good night's sleep. Sometimes I dream about what I watch, especially good things which are always making the list of those videos and movies I watch. In the morning, I read books to prepare my mind for the new day. I do this after showering from morning exercises before I take my breakfast.

I handed Kelly to Savannah to pull off the sheets and quickly change them. Shortly after, I watched my family tuck themselves into bed. “Daddy!” She raised both her arms. “Read me a book with Mommy, please? Pwetty, please?” I chuckled, shaking my head. It was one o’clock in the morning. I crept back to the bed to join them, moving to the other side so Kelly was in the middle. “What would you like to read? Certainly not Alice in Wonderland,” I said. “How about Sleeping Beauty?” Savannah suggested. “She looks as beautiful as you.”

Lips touted, I say, "I'm not that sleepy." "You'll have plenty of time for sleep after my birthday. Catch up on a little ancestry and then rest." He kisses my lips and then heads to bed. Jude had me reading in the nude. That just seemed disrespectful. I whisper, "Sorry," grab a towel, and then read. It's Eve's handwriting, but it's written like a story, not a journal. I'm too engrossed to sleep. Jude sees that I'm still reading, and doesn't disturb me. He sets a tray of breakfast and coffee on the end table, kisses the top of my head, and then goes about his day.

I look over at the bed beside me to see June fast asleep with her reading light on and a book laid out open amongst her sleeping body. June was so quiet when she was asleep, she almost looked like an angel. I got up and walked to June’s bed and turned her light off but not before grabbing her book and putting something in it so she wouldn’t lose her place in the book and placed the book on her night table beside her. I grabbed the blanket that was by June’s feet and extended it out and covered her entire body. Within seconds I started to experience deja vu. The memories of every time I’d tuck bash in at night started to surface. Every time he had a bad dream, every time he got terrified and

He’d been doing this every morning since the remission results. He’d wait until he thought I was asleep, then he’d rest his forehead against the small curve of my stomach and read whatever children’s book the nurses had smuggled in. Yesterday it was The Runaway Bunny. The day before, Guess How Much I Love You. He read them like scripture, voice rough with exhaustion and something so tender it hurt to hear. Today he finished the book, closed it gently, and pressed his lips to the spot just above my navel. “I know you’re awake,” he murmured against my skin.
