Slowly, deliberately, I opened it. Greek mythology. My breath caught. The cover was glossy and new. I flipped it open, the pages crisp beneath my fingertips, the scent of fresh paper and ink rising up, familiar and comforting. Only Damian knew. Only Damian knew how I’d always lost myself in these stories, gods and mortals, tragedies and triumphs, flawed heroes and inevitable endings. How I found comfort in myths that never pretended happy endings were guaranteed. A warmth spread through my chest, tender and bittersweet all at once.

A first edition of Meridian's Bestiary, one of only three known copies, lay in the fireplace, its charred edges still smoking faintly. I crouched beside a toppled shelf, running my thumb over the embossed title of a fallen book: On the Nature of Forgotten Gods. The sheer breadth of knowledge in this room made my chest tighten. Histories of dead civilizations. Treatises on magic even the scholars feared to practice. Accounts of creatures that should have stayed myth. And as I stood in the midst of the wreckage, breathing in the scent of ink and blood and broken things, I understood why someone would take her.

I heard dad's voice, and he came into my view through the darkness. "I thought you were a ghost." I joked. "I was going through some old books. Found the exact one I was looking for," he said, handing me over a thick book that looked around a hundred years old. "What is this?" I asked. "It's a legendary, secret book about alphas who didn't approve of Moon Goddess's selection of mates and who fell in love with another," he spoke. My eyes shifted to his, and he quickly looked aside. Then he started adding more facts as he paced around; "Moon Goddess is the goddess we believe in. Humans might not even know her, but she's our goddess. She knows the best for us, and I don't think it's a good idea

"Hm, you know what? Fuck it, I can have favorites, too. So, yeah, it's a tie between the one on my back, and Scylla and Charybdis." "Who and who?" "These sea monsters..." She used her left hand to trace the full-sleeve piece on her right arm. "Scylla and Charybdis from Homer's 'Odyssey.'" Seeing the stack of books piled up high on top of the table I knew I had found the right table. “Alec, I think we should go look in the kitchen. No one is back here.” Savenia said. “That my dear is where you are drastically wrong.” Once we reached the back table I watched as Savenia looked at several of the titles of the books piled on top. “History of the Werewolves. Psychology of the Paranormal. Ancient Greek Mythology. Witches and their Divine Power. Fae and the Woodland Creatures. The History of Dracula and the Vampire Methodology. Werebears and Shifters of all Kinds. Whoaaa. Those are some serious titles. I wonder who checked all these books, then lifted them here.” Savenia said.

Or so I think! There's no one in the library so I have to scour the place to find a book about our kind. I search the 'history' section and I find none. However, finding myself in the 'myths' section, I find a book that seems to be the right one which I'm convinced it's speaking about one of the warriors. I open it up and unknowingly to me, I'm not ready for its contents. It talks about the the moon goddess and her mighty warriors. It also talks about the legend and how they're to descend on earth and surprisingly, I land in the first warrior's name: Hera.

"Zeke! You're going too far." "But still! Let me just go with you. I promise not to disturb you." He said. I just shook my head as I went inside the library after saying ' goodbye ' to them. I feel Zeke following me in librarian table and sign into a log book as I did. I roam around the bookshelves and find something interesting to read. The Greek mythology book about Poseidon catches my attention and when I was about to get it when Zeke grab it. I just rolled my eyes at his childishness.

Klark, ‘Tribid Greed’ by Steve Reynolds, and a lot of other books.

On Thursday, the other two books arrived. Ernest saw them on the hall table before Don did—a collection of essays by a Greek poet whose name Ernest did not recognize, and a slim volume about the food of northern Greece, specifically Thessaloniki. The food book was the smallest of the three, but it had been placed precisely on top of the other two, and Ernest recognized the placement as Don's—the particular organization of someone who had thought about the order of reading. The food book would be third. The essays would be second. The Byzantine history was first, and Don was already a hundred pages into it. At dinner, Ernest said: "Three books."
