He growls, increasingly desperate. “I’m not…” the man on the ground says, and Victor’s eyes fly to him. That voice – it’s not what he had expected – “Please,” the Beta says, ripping the ski mask from his face. “I’m not Rafe. I’m sorry, sir, my orders are to…to stay here. Until he comes.” Victor narrows his eyes at the Beta, sealing his mouth shut. Apparently, the game was still afoot. And the rules had changed.

He would definitely have me punished. Like a possessed person, I stormed out of my room in search of the doomed Beta, who was hell-bent on making my already miserable life worse. As fate would have it, I found him on the training field dismissing the soldiers. When he turned to meet my eyes, his face morphed into a scary frown, but I wasn't deterred. Clenching my fist by my side, I stood in front of him, squaring my shoulder. "I think you are the most confused person to ever exist, Beta Simon."

It only took the Beta ten minutes before he entered Alaric's father's territory. He didn't bother with the front gate; he went in through the unmarked area on the side, just like Alaric always did when sneaking in to see him.

For once, I held his gaze, my fingers tightening around his forearm. His stare met mine, unflinching and charged—a flicker of something unfamiliar. Then, softening, he smiled and brushed a loose strand of hair from my face, his touch lingering just long enough to unsteady me. “Listen,” he said, voice low but firm. “You can’t afford to mess this up. Your mum warned you about your… gifts, didn’t she? Stay sharp. Too much noise in your head, and you’ll lose focus.” Sod this, I thought bitterly, chewing my lip. Every bloody day, another cretin thinking they’ve a right to leer. Why’d I have to be born a Beta?

Jessica held onto my shirt, trying to prevent me from moving forward. I placed my hand on her hand and gently encouraged her to release me. I moved closer to the Beta, before stopping in front of him. “I am the Beta of the Full Moon Pack. I would love to see you try to destroy me,” I said as his face went white. “My apologies Beta. Is the Alpha aware you are with his daughter? She is to be married this morning,” the Beta responded as he took a step back.

" Nodding, I got off the ground and wiped the drops of blood that were left behind on my neck. Once I checked in with Kelvin, I would be able to go and check in with Haidan as well. I needed to tell her that I was resigning as beta for the pack and would leave here for good. I probably should have done that at first, but there was only one thing on my mind as soon as I reached town.

I mind-linked Jack but he was also the same and could not tell. Before I knew what was happening, Josie moved to stand in front of the Beta. “Are you telling the truth Beta?” she demands. I forgot she was an Alpha in her own right. The Beta looks like he is struggling to remain in command, but he quickly bends his head in acknowledgement of a higher-ranking wolf. “No,” he hisses out.

I am not pregnant, but now I feel fat, thanks for that Mal,” Valaria replied in jest, “We have picked our Beta’s, as you all know Nick and Diane were only ever a cover, that cover is now well and truly blown, so we have each picked a Beta to serve as our right hands,” Dominic stepped forward and removed his necklace which is supposedly made of the teeth of Fenrir, the wolf God, “My Beta will be Stacy, she has proven herself more than worthy and she will wear the Fenrisian Tooth and act as my second,”

I am still staring at the wall when the Beta walks in and sits down. As soon as the door is shut, he asks. "What would you like to know?" I quirk an eyebrow at him and look at Cree who has this look of wonder on his face.
