Better Than Fiction Book Novels & Stories

The flowers and the greenery looked so inviting; I was beginning to forget the scent of nature and the feeling of the breeze on my skin and in my hair. I turned to the long shelf to find something to read to help pass the time. But most of the books were biological journals and some other non-fiction. And I wanted to read fiction; maybe some lying on pages and dreamy characters could help with the boredom. I roamed through the shelves carefully looking for something. Just when I thought the search was going to be harder, I found a few and decided to read the one with the prettiest covers. The book was so interesting; I didn’t know fiction was so good. “I hope so. Maybe a good book, too.” “Nonfiction or fiction?” He turned and faced her. “On vacation? Fiction. Before bed, non-fiction.” “Why non-fiction before bed?” “I like the fiction books too much. I won’t sleep. I have to know what the next chapter is. Does the dragon devour the town? Do the aliens win? How does the pauper become a prince? What about you?” the man asked. “Fiction or non-fiction?” “Fiction. I am a sucker for a good romance. And Dr. Seuss, of course, but that’s more on a professional level.”

"Really? Like, do you even hear yourself? Books are far better." "Give me an example." "You said you read romance novels right? The After series is a perfect example." "Sad, 'cause on the contrary, I only watch horror and action movies." He said and shrugged. "Hey! And you were going to argue with me about movies being better than books!" She snapped at him. He shrugged once again and sipped his coffee. "I still stand on that," he said. The argument continued that way, and instead of it being tense, it was relaxing for both parties.

Because of this, I would like to point out that this story is not for the weak of stomach or faint of heart. You’d expect to find a story like this in the fiction aisle of your brick and mortar bookstore instead of the non-fiction section where it truly belongs, and that’s okay with me. In fact, I prefer it. It makes it easier to tell a story that I find unbelievable even though I lived through it when it’s formatted and touted as fictitious. I feel free sharing the details under the guise of make believe.

The softness of each page with its hardened exterior sent a warmth through my body that no human could ever provide me. It’s been so long since I was able to actually hold a book like this in my hands; the astronomy book that Bob had given me to study was alright. It was better than nothing, but it didn’t give me that same sense of purpose and mystery as a book with a story does. Transporting my brain somewhere different; somewhere peaceful; somewhere that change is possible, and no dream is too big.

"As far as I remember, you've been reading that damn novel since I've been talking to you. What do people enjoy in reading words?" "Because it's awesome." "How? You can rather watch a movie than read books." I slapped the book out of her hand. "This book… 'The Badboy's Pre-planned Future Bride' by 'Gift Odulesi', it's awesome. You really should read her books. Some people prefer reading books than watching movies." She rolled her eyes and picked the book from the floor. "Oh, really? People like who?" I took a handful of chips and threw it into my mouth, munching it.

It's all a fantasy. Fable has been my escape. An unhealthy one. A safe pretend world where I could bury myself. Just like how Zee cried after she finished the final Harry Potter book, or how Jamie bases so much of her worth on the fictional version of herself that lives across a thousand Instagram pics, in the comments and likes of a thousand strangers. Just carefully constructed lies to comfort and lull. Dreams.

All I needed to be pumped at the start of the day was to have my coffee on the table beside me and then a book in my warm hands— there wasn't much I would pick over this. Another thing I found ineffable was the effect good stories had on me. I couldn't emphasize just how good stories made me feel. I loved the way I could get lost in stories and not be bothered at all. More than just a way to escape, I saw it as a journey. Yes, a journey. A journey into the lives of characters that I often understood more than even they themselves. It was quite stimulating to be able to move through each phase of fictional characters' lives; experiencing every moment with them.

First, let me tell you something. I am so happy and flattered that you're reading my book. I know I have many mistakes, spelling or other but I am trying my best to make this special. I received messages like "Your book is like Gray's Anatomy." No it's not -.- It just has a story with doctors and Seattle. Big deal. But yes, the GA is my favorite show so yes, I did get inspired by it. I assure you, it is NOT nor WILL BE like GA. I do not copy anything.
