He looked down at the cake, then at me, before reaching out and helping me back to my feet with ease. “I apologize,” he said calmly, as if this was the most logical solution in the world. “We can get another one tomorrow.”
I immediately shook my head, my expression serious. “No. We don’t need it tomorrow. We need it now. It would be useless tomorrow.”
He raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. “Why?”
I stared at him for a second, equally confused by his confusion. “Huh? Because it’s your birthday,” I said slowly, as if explaining something obvious. “People need cakes on their birthdays. It’s like an unwritten rule.”
