Gabriel staggered.
Adrian dropped.
Before Gabriel could recover, Adrian’s elbow connected with the side of his skull. Gabriel’s head snapped sideways, and for the first time, Gabriel’s body didn’t blur with effortless grace.

Adrian moved.
He lunged, claws slicing across Gabriel’s chest, ripping through fabric and flesh. Black blood splattered across the stones. Gabriel looked down at the wound, blinking slowly, shock flickering across his face like a glitch in an ancient machine.
