Zach sighed, grabbed his books, but then handed me one of his notebooks before walking away. "Just learn these," he said. Then he turned and left me sitting there, stunned. I picked up the notebook and opened it. Oh... wow. It was Zach's math notes. His handwriting was so neat—it looked like a girl's—that I suddenly felt super insecure. I flipped through the pages, my heart pounding. This was weird. It was just a notebook... but somehow, it felt special. I gathered my things, hugged Zach's notebook to my chest, and then rushed out of the library, searching the halls for him.

I was solving it in my head, writing numbers fast without thinking. I didn’t notice Alan watching until it was too late. “Whoa,” he said, leaning over. “What is that? It looks super complicated. Are you doing that for class?” I slammed the notebook shut fast, my heart racing. “It’s nothing. Just doodles. For my cousin.” Alan looked at me with curious eyes. “Didn’t look like doodles. You were writing formulas like it was easy. Toby, if you’re really smart, you don’t have to hide it from me.”

Picking up a notebook from her table, she placed it on their table and said, “Go through this. You might be able to score at least ten to twenty points if you able to keep in mind few of the techniques.” Jiyeon was sure that wouldn’t be working for her. Mathematics appeared to foreign language to her. Jiyeon blamed this on how tricky the questions in the test papers can be.
