Saliva dripped from his snarling jaws as he crouched, preparing to attack. The two wolves collided with a thunderous crash, their snarls and growls echoing through the bakery. Claws raked fur and flesh, teeth snapped with lethal intent. Ryker’s agility countered Bruce’s brute strength as they moved in a flurry of strikes and evasions. Despite the chaos, Ryker’s every move was calculated, his wolf form exhibiting both power and precision.

The light is so bright and the night air is so clear, that I can make out every last detail of the hunting party right down to the color of their eyes. I may not be in wolf form, but my wolf senses are as alert as ever. This is a fight I can win. Even six against one. But poor Jim doesn't know that. He looks terrified. I see the first two bikers. They are both big, burly men. I smell their anger and the scent of their aggression. The third biker is taller, with a wide belly, dark eyes, and dark hair. "Take the girl," a voice calls. He dropped to one knee for half a second, teeth clenched as the silver in the bullet burned through his flesh. But then he forced himself back up. “I’m fine,” he growled. “You are not fine!” “I’ve had worse.” Before I could argue, his body shifted again. Bones cracked. Muscles stretched. His massive wolf burst forward once more, fury blazing in his golden eyes. The wolves around him followed instantly. The hunters were overwhelmed. One motorcycle rider tried to start his engine again, but a gray wolf slammed into him from the side before he could move. The bike toppled over, metal scraping loudly against the dirt.

I muttered to no one as my grip on his blanket tightened.
