Kade said with an eye roll. The interaction made Cilyna and Kaynon smile as they watched the twins bicker at each other. Suddenly the twins closed their eyes and their hair began to fly as if the winds were blowing just before a hurricane made landfall, though there was no wind blowing through the yard. Their magic swirled around them as red and blue fog emanated from where their hands were clasped together. It leaked through their fingers to spread along the ground around them. Sayora stopped suddenly and crouched, parting a patch of moss with the tip of her knife. “Starleaf,” she murmured, voice calm and precise. “Rare, and only blooms after a storm. Look closely, child. See how the edges glow faintly silver? That’s how you know it’s still fresh.” I was tempted to ask why she had buried the words that left my mouth. “I know.” She had said. But then she moved on from it like those words never left my mouth. I did too for a brief moment.

Feel it.” Nya closed her eyes, wondering why she hadn’t seen this scene ever before, and put her hand over the wound. “Heart of Magic,” she whispered, “I command you to heal this wound. Heal this man, and make him whole again.” Immediately, she felt the power pulsing through her, stronger now than it ever had before. It flowed from her fingers into Slate’s chest, and he closed his eyes as a warmth embraced both of them, a circling breeze like the hottest of summer days engulfing them and sweeping them up into the air. Through the blur of flying debris and shouting guards, the stranger's dark eyes cut across the chaotic room again. This time, they locked directly onto mine with a fierce, unyielding intensity. "Seraphina!" he shouted over the roar of the crowd, his voice cutting cleanly through the noise. My heart leaped into my throat. Before I could even process what he was doing, he raised his hand toward me, and a sudden, sharp yank of blue-tinted magic pulled at the air around my waist.

But then my eyes fell back on the burnt line, and I felt my chest tighten. "But who’s this?" I asked quietly, my voice trembling. Clara shrugged, not a care in the world. "How the hell should I know? It’s dark magic. Black magic." She waved her hand dismissively. "That’s all I know." I stared at the map, the weight of it settling on me. The lines, the darkness, the magic. It all felt like something was slipping through my fingers. My head throbbed, pressure building as I tried to piece it all together. The world felt like it was closing in on me, suffocating me.

Riley's hand was over the both of theirs, pushing each of their own back into them. As the orange faded from Star's body, white magic crept out and Claire absorbed it.

Sunshine screams as the mixture flying through the air strikes her down. I step inside the protection ring. I reach out to make an opening and pull her onto our side to protect her, but before I can pull Sunshine into my magic protection, one of the minions grabs Sunshine. He hits Sunshine one time with the salty-smelling potion, and it penetrates her body.
