Snow fell in soft spirals, the sky a silvery gray canvas.
“Did it snow all night?” I asked, quietly.
“Yes,” he replied with a faint scoff. “I hate the snow. Crimson Dusk has long, bitter winters. But the season will pass. Very soon.”
I nodded absently, but it wasn’t the cold that bothered me. It was the image of the captives, Zevarion, sleeping outside, shivering under open skies, stripped of warmth. I imagined the snow clinging to their skin, burying them slowly.
