Pink boas were laid out over the couches and arm chairs. They had a bite to eat at Mabel’s BBQ, a restaurant in the Palms. Then they did some gambling. A couple of Lacey’s friends had to explain to her how the table games were played. The only games Lacey knew about were blackjack and poker. Her father had taught her how to play those two games when she was a teenager to her mother’s chagrin. She never was good at blackjack but she did decently at poker. So well, she won two thousand dollars playing in the poker room. She won another thousand playing baccarat.

he noted. ‎She said nothing. ‎Didn’t move. ‎Didn’t cry. ‎His lips curved faintly. ‎“Smart girl.” ‎For a brief moment, they simply looked at each other. ‎Then he reached into his pocket. ‎Pulled something out. ‎A card. ‎He flicked it lightly. ‎It landed at her feet. ‎Blackjack. ‎“Run,” he said casually. ‎And she did. ‎This time, she didn’t stop. ‎She ran into the darkness.

**** Christopher, Bruce, and Trevor were at the New York Country Club playing eighteen holes. Trevor swung back and hit the sky blue golf ball with all he had. It flew high and long into the air. All three of them got into the golf cart and drove closer to the eighth hole. He jumped out without saying a word. He was pleased to see that his ball had made it closer to the hole than Christopher’s yellow ball.
