“She ran away to avoid getting married.”

Meg appeared at the top of the stairs, like a supernatural event. Her black hair, pinned up, framed her face. A blue dress, her favorite color, highlighted her eyes. A radiant smile lit up her face.
“I was kidnapped. Beaten. I was locked in a dark room without water or food. And pure luck did not violate me.”
“You?” the wife said, almost voiceless.
