“DON’T.” Danny glanced at his fingers almost by accident, still reeling from having been touched in such a way by someone he didn’t know, and saw the bloody gum of torn skin under his nails. He stopped, still as the city that no longer was. In that part of him where the light flickered to reveal smiles before, there now issued a second spark, only the light was blue this time. Cold, and burning. The light was pain. Danny had been scratching at his scars.

Danny heard a series of explosions from the hotel lobby. His eyelids fluttered. He frowned anxiously. Soon, there was dead silence upstairs. Danny hesitated for a long time before finally making up his mind. He slowly walked upstairs. By the time he reached the thirteenth floor, he was out of breath. However, he stopped breathing altogether when he saw the scene in the corridor. The corpses on the ground were all bleeding profusely, and they included the Shadow Guards' corpses.

“I fought my body. It sounds crazy but that’s exactly what I did. My body wanted to obey his command so I had to force it to listen to me instead. My attacker was surprised by this and when I told him to leave me alone, he listened.” Now that I hear myself say the whole story out loud it sounds more than crazy.
