"Do you think you'll survive?" The woman looked at Dark. Dark noticed that the woman was somewhat uncomfortable with him. They watched as the doctor left, they followed him with their gaze until they left the room with the nurses. A lot of tubing is attached to the woman. There's also a machine on the side, and oxygen.

The last thing I see before the darkness swallows me whole is the driver on the ground, bleeding from his temple. And then everything zips into black.

The old man's words sliced through the chaos, his voice like a sharp edge that cut deep. "She's the one who's bringing darkness to life," he said, his tone grim. "The blood that's been hidden for so long is responding to her call." Several older vampires physically backed away from me. One dropped to his knees. Someone spoke in a low voice, using words I couldn't understand, and then quickly backed away towards the wall of the cathedral, as if being close to me was somehow dangerous.
