The reality of it sat in my chest like ice. We turned onto the long driveway leading to the estate. The iron gates were ahead. Closed. Red emergency lights bathed everything in the color of blood. The gates started to open. Then the world exploded. BOOM.

There was so much blood. It was on Matt’s truck door. A large puddle was on the floor by his front wheel. The mess by the door to the building looked as if Matt had tried to fight back. Claw marks littered the outside of the door. What the hell had happened?

The letters reflect in the puddles on the tarmac. The doorman sees my flag on the bonnet of the car. His face turns white. He drops his cigarette into the wet gutter. I do not wait for the driver to open my door. I push it open and step out onto the pavement. My heels crunch on the grit. The sound of loud music and clinking glasses leaks through the heavy velvet curtains of the entrance. I can smell cheap gin, sweat, and the sour scent of low-ranking wolves. "Axton, stay by the door," I command. "If anyone tries to leave, break their legs."

Her hand flies to her shoulder. Then her eyes widen. Not in pain. In realization. The ground beneath us trembles. A deep, heavy sound rolls through the air. Not from the street. From somewhere else. Somewhere beyond. The shadows begin to move again. But not like before. They are not spreading. They are pulling back. Drawn toward her. Toward the blood. Toward the Door. I step in front of her again. Ready. Whatever comes next, I meet it. Because nothing gets through me.

My legs felt like jelly as I stumbled towards the door, the pain on my back still evident cause of the way I had hit the wall. I could taste the coppery taste of blood in my mouth. There was just too much blood, and I felt nauseated. I rushed to the door, shoved the key into the keypad, and prayed it worked as I twisted the key. The lock clicked, and I almost cried from relief. I pulled the door open and stepped into a narrow hallway. There were three doors and three hallways stretched in front of me like a maze. I didn’t have time to think. I rushed to the first one, twisting the knob and pushing it open.

“I will go out quickly.” “No,” Jordy said immediately, grabbing his arm. “Not through the front.” Matt frowned slightly. “There is no other exit.” “There is,” Jordy said quickly, pulling him toward the side of the house. They moved fast now, urgency replacing caution. But as they reached the small hallway near the side storage area, another sound came from outside. Keys. The front door unlocking. Jordy stopped completely. Matt did too. For a moment, neither of them moved. The door opened.

They finally got to a large red door. Chelsea could feel the horrors oozing out of the door. It felt like there was an evil world behind the door, like it led to a place of no return. A place of death. She shuddered as she watched Dylan open the door. He held it open for her to enter. She inhaled and exhaled deeply before gradually stepping in. The metallic smell of blood instantly invaded her nostrils. As she walked in, she could see blood splattered everywhere.
