My right arm aches as though I’ve over-exerted it. Something warm drips from my fingers and when I look down I have to stifle a scream. It’s blood. What have I done? My breath catches in my throat and my heartbeat turns into a frantic staccato. I’m sure it’s not mine. I don’t seem to be injured, but it’s there, smeared across my hands, my nails caked with it. A broken gasp rips from my throat and I scramble backward, my pulse roaring in my ears as I look around frantically, trying to find whatever I killed.

The blood I saw this time was not the usual one, it was usually a few drops. I thought it was just the minor stress that I usually put myself through that caused it. I looked at my hand gloves, it was covered in thick red blood. they formed thick blood clots. I gasped, doing my best to stop the bleeding. My hands were shaky or maybe I was the one wobbly.

Sticky. I pull my hand back and stare at it. Blood.

“What?!” Another inhale and then a squeeze of my hand and a soft rub of my cheek with her thumb. “Sweet girl, our warriors found two fingers in a box. They had been frozen and there doesn’t seem to be any blood left to use for identification, but we have everyone who could possibly give us answers working on that.”

With a groan, I kneaded the back of my head, hoping that the worse of the pain would leave. It did not. The ache intensified. Shifting lightly on the bed, I took a shaky breath as my fingers slid into my thighs. I felt something fluid around my fingers and pulling it up, I noticed it was reddish in colour.... Blood. Oh, my God! The door opened right at that moment, and a maid stepped in with a plate full of food, looking at my fingers and my face. Then, she averted her gaze quickly, sighing as she dropped the food on the nearby table.

Anna went on her knees and gently picked up the frame. She gasps when she saw how badly broken it has become. "Oh my God, how did this happen?" she cried out touching the picture of the broken frame and then a tiny piece of the broken glass pierced her right middle finger. "Ouch" she squealed and threw off the frame on the floor and held her right middle finger tight and blood gushed out.
