I straightened, breathing steady, eyes dead cold as I looked over the carnage, bodies sprawled at my feet, blood everywhere, sheets soaked, bed ruined, feathers floating like lost dreams through the air.
I yanked my precious fork free with a little flourish, blood and gore clinging to the tines like the world’s worst spaghetti and wiped it lovingly on the nearest corpse’s shirt. “You did good, babe,” I muttered, giving it a little admiring twirl before letting it clatter to the floor like a retired champion. “Best investment I ever stole from those idiots.”
I smoothed the ruined blanket over the bed like a bored maid on her last shift, feathers drifting everywhere and i stared at the corpses
