A small figure comes bounding down the hallway, arms outstretched. "Mommy!" I crouch just in time to catch my daughter, laughter breaking free as I lift her into my arms. Six years old, with wild dark curls and bright, curious eyes that shimmer with the same sliver and deep blue hue I see in the mirror whenever my wolf stirs. A reminder of my lineage. A reminder of him. But I never let bitterness touch her. "Lyra," I murmured, kissing her forehead. "Did you stay up past your bedtime again?"

Those usually defiant eyes were bloodshot. He pulled out a cold smile that looked extraordinarily fierce. "Don't tell me you're going to her wedding." Eleanor was initially frightened by him. But she quickly composed herself. Isn't this just karma? All these years she had cried so many tears feeling sorry for her best friend. Now her heart felt just as satisfied. The multicoloured lion continued to hesitate before stopping and moving back to its original spot on the lake's edge. It had a cunning aesthetic in its eyes. It licked its lip while sticking out its tongue. The lion in many hues continued to fix his gaze on the lake. It questioned itself, "Why did the sound go away?" The lion was hesitant. It wanted to investigate what was going on. A pair of blue eyes that resembled the moon was staring at it when it turned to face the sky.

Lionel repeated it under his breath—"Phantom Eye… Phantom Eye…" Suddenly, his eyes widened as recognition hit him like a truck. "Y-You're that Phantom Eye? The lone assassin from Blumedale, the infamous killer-for-hire?" He looked stunned, then quickly shifted to scorn. "Well, well… I didn't think someone of your caliber would fall this low. Guarding a backwater clinic in Jayrodale? Pathetic. You've really sunk to rock bottom."

Leon pushed back the familiar surge of envy at seeing them. He pushed that old rage aside, locked it back in the box with the rest of his demons, when he felt the magic settle over Livia like a blanket. It wouldn’t hurt her, wouldn’t even make her say things she didn’t want to. It would only prevent her from lying.

“What happened to this hunter? Could we get more information out of him?” Enyo pushes herself forward and says, “Let’s just say, Alpha, that he will never hurt anyone again.” The Beta looks at me with a surprised expression. “Your lycan’s eyes are blue,” he says. “They’re not yellow like a regular wolfs.” ‘Good one, Enyo,’ I say to her angrily. ‘Sorry,’ she says with a huff. “Erm, no, they’re not. No one has ever worked out why,” I say.

Lyros looks back as if to shun me for disturbing him with that sound but I can see a smile at the corner of his lips. I look away and wish I didn't the next moment. My eyes land on Cain and the first thing I notice again is his eyes. They're usually always white, the cornea being much milkier than the vibrant white of his iris, but today, that vibrant white iris is shining with a cold blue light. It was the same thing that I saw last night, and I thought that was just because he was surprised or angry at what he discovered.
