I grabbed the huge canvas and my paints without bothering to tie my hair up. Colors collided on the canvas, raw and wild. Rage mixed with sorrow, bleeding into every stroke—red for the fury in the background, black for the emptiness, lines in the red, white for the hollow ache blending with the blue, brown for the weight of it all. But...Blue surged, sharp and piercing, until his image actually emerged. Not the man himself, but his eyes. Those cruel, calculating blue eyes that knew exactly how to lie. The image spoke...as if it was actually him on the other side—laughing at me, cruelly.

Her body was facing away, but her face was displayed in a three quarter view as she smiled back at me. Lydia was taking most of the canvas, wearing an off the shoulders light turquoise top, leaving very little space for the background. The background was an abstract meld of cheerful colors, lively green and blue and gold fusing together and letting Lydia's bright smile shine. It was full of life. Just like Lydia.

Blue. Not the blue of the sky or ocean, nor anything earthly. This is the blue of lightning—of raw power given form—of divinity taking shape in flesh that struggles to contain it. It’s different from that night in the forest when her eyes transformed or the flashes he had seen staring back at her in the mirror. Her hair shifts as well. It starts at the roots; black fades away, replaced by silver that spreads and becomes an incandescent white—pure and luminous, as if it generates its own light.

The sky stretches above in strange hues, not the black I’m used to, but a pale glowing blue, as if dawn is stuck in a loop here. “I know right?” Blaire says with this wild grin, like she’s proud of showing me. “It’s beautiful… Even though it’s my home, it still amazes me every time I pass through the woods. And wahhh, this cool air—feels like it was made to wash sins away.”

Lyra and I say at the same time. We look at each other. “Obviously,” Lyra says. “Obviously,” I echo. Maya watches us like we are strange animals. “Decoration colors?” Lyra asks. “Warm tones,” I say. “Orange, soft gold, maybe blue touches.” Maya nods. “Blue reminds him of calm.” I glance at her, impressed. She notices small things. Quiet things. Lyra stands and stretches. “We will need time after classes to set up.” “I will distract him,” I say.

I urged "The table.... the door.....the clock......and.....uh- you?" I smiled, brushing his damp hair away from his face. "Mention three blue things you can see" I said. "The painting---my shirt--- your---" His rapid breathing slowed down. "Your eyes" he breathed. I embraced him and he held onto me. "It's okay. You're okay" I whispered, stroking his hair. "I'm sorry-- I--" "Sh-- it's fine. Just breathe" He nodded. Soon, his breathing evened out. I could tell that he'd fallen asleep.
