Reminding me of that night. My heart fluttered and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. A warm feeling I found irresistible, curled around me, drawing me in. I quickly snapped out of it and dashed for the elevator. there was no way he was getting to the office before me.

"What the hell is that smell?" Rafferty slammed the door of the Bentley, the leather interior usually smelling of nothing but cold vacuum and expensive polish. Now, a thick, cloying sweetness choked the air. Sandalwood. Spiced orange. The distinct, metallic tang of Ignatius’s signature cologne. He didn't touch the steering wheel. He sat there, his fingers curling into the palms of his hands until the nails bit into the skin. It was thick. Oppressive. It clung to the roof of his mouth.

I stared. Then I blinked. Row after row of pristine, high-end skincare bottles stood in perfect alignment. “Who even has this much skincare?” I whispered, picking up a bottle of face oil. “He really thinks he’s all that. Too much upkeep for a guy who pretends nothing fazes him.” Next to the serums sat a velvet-lined tray holding his colognes—rare, numbered batches from houses in Grasse and London, the kind of bottles you only see behind locked glass cases in luxury boutiques.

The heat of him seeped through the fabric of his shirt, and I leaned in closer, letting my hair cascade over one shoulder as I locked eyes with him. His hands hovered at my waist, hesitant but firm as though torn between holding me still and pulling me closer. The faint scent of his cologne—rich and complex, with layers of dark cherry, a whisper of black cardamom, and a grounding base of smoky oud—mingled with the cocktail in my hand, enveloping me in a warmth that was both mysterious and alluring. " Yes sir, am listening" I say, adjusting my green tie. "Are you done with the Cryptanalysis I sent you last week…boss needs it in 20 mins…asap."

I calmly explain. “Are you seriously trying to justify your line of work?” He asks incredulously. I walk over and lean over him with my hands on either side of his head as I look in his eyes. His ocean-blue eyes latch onto mine and neither of us breaks contact. He gulps hard and I note his intoxicating cologne. It’s subtle and not at all overpowering. It compliments his natural scent instead of masking it.

He smelled divine but my crazy ass brain decided to remember a certain moment and before I could stop myself, I called out to him. "Yes?". He turned to look at me. "What's the name of your cologne sir?". I asked. His brows furrowed in confusion. "Why do you ask?". "I'd like to buy it for my father." It was a lie but he didn't know that. "Ralph Lauren Polo black." He said. "It doesn't smell good on you. Makes my nose itchy." I told him. "Change it." I waited to see his reaction. He stared at me for a long time with an unreadable expression on his face then he suddenly smirked. Evilly, I might add.

Watching me break down when I thought no one could see. A cold sweat broke across my back. I approached the bouquet cautiously, like it might explode if I touched it. I picked up the attached card, hands trembling. It was blank. But the scent. I knew that cologne. Of course I did. Sebastian. That sickening, intoxicating blend of cedarwood, smoke, and something faintly spiced. It used to live on my pillows, on my skin, in every piece of clothing he ever touched. I thought I’d forgotten it.

But the scent lingered, a constant reminder of Collins' presence and the hold he had on her. As she began to bathe, the warm water and soothing suds couldn't wash away the tension she felt. Her mind raced with thoughts of Collins, their complicated relationship, and the uncertain future that lay ahead. As she stood under the water, the cologne's scent seemed to seep into her pores, making her feel lightheaded and dizzy. She closed her eyes, trying to clear her head, but the fragrance only seemed to intensify, making her feel like she was drowning in it. Finally, she emerged from the bath, the scent of the cologne still clinging to her skin like a lingering embrace.
