Why…just why…did I forget that I am not supposed to forget anything? It was my fault. The tips of my fingers tingle. The surge of strange energy pulses under my skin. As I look down at my arms, I find my veins glowing blue. Instead of getting surprised, I find myself staring at them until the color becomes brighter.

Any thermometer would have failed to measure what I could see what I could feel. There were black veins. Thin, unnatural lines moving beneath his skin, like living ink made of shadow itself. They pulsed, spreading with each heartbeat. I had seen similar cases, but nothing like this. They’d started at his ankles, creeping upward, pulsing with an intensity that made my chest tighten. Now they had reached his waist. If they crossed any further, spread past that point, he’d be gone. Not in the usual medical sense. Gone entirely. I pressed my fingers against his wrist again, feeling the pulse. Weak, but it was there. Just barely.

I felt the strings of my heart tug, a familiar ache forming. He is too young to be subjected to this. Now looking up close, his upper left arm, the side of his neck, and his right ankle were covered in bandages. It did not seem big enough to cause any alarm, however, the coloration of his body was the cause of concern. HIs body had turned into the light shade of purple, the veins prominent in a very dark shade, and his face, sunken and pale. If not that I could hear the very faint sound of his heartbeat, I would assume he was dead, long dead even.

"Mother!" I straightened up, scanning his face for more answers. His cute face wore a mask of pulpable fear I had when I lost my parents. I was interested in Ludovic all of a sudden. There was something more about him that I wanted to know. I longed to know everything about him. Suddenly, the veins in his arms became tensed, especially on his left arm where I saw a tear at the posterior of his bicep. The veins surrounding the tear were black, which got me narrowing.

The eldest one who saw what was happening to his little brother checked himself and saw the same happening to him. In matter of seconds, the veins had spread out and has nearly covered them whole . “What’s going on?” Lisa cried out when she saw the state of her brothers. She instantly ran away, I assumed it was to go get help.

With Hayden and Elise in front and Rygan watching them from behind, he couldn’t help feeling something amiss in the air. Elise's eyes were concentrated on Hayden; she could see Hayden’s breath was getting harsher and thicker, as he could hardly breathe with each step. This time, she made it to his front, blocking his movements. She takes his right arm, drawing the sleeves of the shift up to see that his once clear skin now has black gaunt veins protruding from his skin. “You are not fine!” Elise says as she looks at his neck to see it’s gotten worse, and maybe Rygan was right.

I was sure of it. I had lots of questions, but with the way he kept acting oblivious, I wasn't sure if I should ask. I realized I'd been holding eye contact with him for an uncomfortable amount of time and awkwardly turned away. My gaze shifted to Xlynor. He was leaned back, eyes fixed on the arena and his expression closed and unreadable. My eyes accidentally drifted down to his hand on the armrest, and then I saw it. Black veins visible through his skin, running along his fingers and stretching up into his arm like roots.

The doctor stood there, checking for whatever seemed important. "Alpha,” he called, bowing his head. “Good thing you're here.” he finished and my brows furrowed. It most definitely is not. Seeing him on that bed only made me wish I'd done this to him. "What did you find?” I asked. He lifted his arm, "I didn't notice this earlier, but this started appearing in his body.” He replied, pointing to the silver veins now in his skin. "That doesn't look normal.” Sebastian said, "do you know what caused it?”

Her blood vessels were very slender, and the marks on her arm were particularly noticeable! "I just left for a while. What has happened?" Tina's face turned pale immediately.
