From Lies To Love
Her body was listless, all her energy exhausted.
"Simeon…" she whispered, her eyes barely remaining open.
"I've got you," I said sternly.
Overriding the pain in my body, I lifted her up into my arms.
Lily rested in my arms, her body weak and still. She breathed shallowly, her complexion pale beneath the blood and grime on her face. I could feel the pulse of her heart against mine—slow, weak. My own heart thudded with terror.
The fires were spreading rapidly, the fire hot against my flesh. Smoke was everywhere, making it hard to see, hard to breathe. The explosion tore through the earth, blackening the earth behind. Crashing stone and charred wood hung in the air.
