"The carnival hasn’t come back in years," Wren muttered, overhearing. "They stopped after the rot got worse. Too many stories of people meeting, falling in love in the shadow of the ferris wheel, and then rotting weeks later."
"Sounds cursed," Milo added.
"Everything here’s cursed," Luce said. "We just make the best of the leftovers."
Nova looked thoughtful, her gaze fixed on the arcade door as if she could see the whole town beyond it, sinking deeper into itself. "Do you think there’s ever been a way to break it? The curse?"
